Oh My! Its MAKI OH.

The fall 2014 presentation by Maki Oh showcases pieces with easy silhouettes, a pairs of track pants, a soft silk blouse and a lean tailored dress with some slouch in it. This presentation isn’t defined by the looks of the clothes but by the feel of them.

Amaka Osakwe as usual drew her inspiration from a story, this time she imagined a woman at her mirror, reciting the song lyrics,”Tell me i am the only one, even if you choke.”  She went on to say that the vignette presents the question: Is the woman mad or not? And she emphasised that by toying the collection with themes of madness and un-madness, love and anti-love, the other states that fluctuate and are a matter of perception.

She made use of the traditional Nigerian Aso-oke with lurex thread; Pulling luxe gobs of fringe out of selvedge; and translating prints, such as her yoruba lyrics to the song lyrics into hand-applied lettering.

The mesmerising creativity of Amaka’s mind is beyond doubt a fascinating one. Collection after collection she refuses to be distinguished by style or tradition, using aesthetic sophistication to chaperone her intelligent work of art, its impossible not to notice the hand of an artisan in her work as it grows stronger with each collection.

A true definition of design, here are the photo’s Maki Oh’s fall 2014 presentation.
